Runoff Volume Reduction Using Green Infrastructure

چکیده

Uncontrolled urbanization is a frequent cause behind the local flooding of catchment areas. This also results in degradation water quality receivers, as well causing disruption natural cycle catchment. Classical solutions, such retention, do not prove to be sufficient under all conditions. An alternative solution application low impact development (LID), which, analysed case, takes form rain gardens, infiltration trenches and controlled unsealing components. The work presents influence few variants solutions on selected urbanized located Gorzów Wielkopolski. assessment was developed using simulation model, making use EPA’s Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) software. nalysed design are compared with described existing state before implementation modernization works. Previous showing that LID may ineffective only systems overloaded runoff generated by rainfall relatively intensities were confirmed. In case systems, should applied combination classical retention or treatment train every opportunity implement whether property urban site must taken. Such cases will allow for reduction maximum outflow intensity from subcatchment 9 17% depending rainfall. similar those obtained other implementations. However, interpretation simple obvious systems. addition flow rate reduction, surcharge sewer network volume considered. also, whenever possible, looked into early stage planning land infrastructure.

Performance evaluation of green roofs in urban runoff reduction

Urbanism directly affects the hydrological cycle. One of the ways to manage runoffs in urban areas that is considered nowadays is green roof creation. Green roof is mainly created in humid and semi-humid areas, and efficiency of green roofs in arid and semi-arid areas has attracted less attention. In the current study, to evaluate the effect of green roof in arid and semi-arid to reduce runoff,...

Making green infrastructure healthier infrastructure

Increasing urban green and blue structure is often pointed out to be critical for sustainable development and climate change adaptation, which has led to the rapid expansion of greening activities in cities throughout the world. This process is likely to have a direct impact on the citizens' quality of life and public health. However, alongside numerous benefits, green and blue infrastructure a...

Green Infrastructure

The concept of “Green Infrastructure” (GI) is gaining political momentum and has been rapidly introduced in both planning theory and policy, especially in US and Europe (see Lennon, 2014). Yet, it does not have a single widely recognised or accepted definition (Wright, 2011). The term has been adopted by various disciplines (e.g., land conservation, urban design and landscape architecture), som...

Financing Green Urban Infrastructure

This paper presents an overview of practices and challenges related to financing green sustainable cities. Cities are essential actors in stimulating green infrastructure; and urban finance is one of the promising ways in which this can be achieved. Cities are key investors in infrastructure with green potential, such as buildings, transport, water and waste. Their main revenue sources, such as...
